SHELL: A Unique Bus Station Design by Evgeniy Ivaschenko

Unifying Different People and Beliefs in a Comfortable Space

Inspired by the desire to bring together people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and nationalities, designer Evgeniy Ivaschenko created the SHELL bus station. This innovative design aims to provide a comfortable and inclusive space where people can gather while waiting for transportation.

The SHELL bus station stands out from other designs with its use of universal graphic elements that are recognized and understood by many cultures and religions. Symbols such as the sun, moon, stars, circles, and various religious icons are incorporated into the design, representing positive functions and signs of life and nature.

Constructed using simple and cost-effective technology, the SHELL bus station features a frame assembled with steel rivets and metal pipe sections. The structure is covered with polycarbonate panels and wooden boards treated with antiseptic and flame retardants. The use of transparent and shockproof polycarbonate ensures durability and safety.

With dimensions of 6300*2420*2670mm, the SHELL bus station provides ample space for commuters to wait comfortably. Its economic feasibility is evident in its manufacturing cost of only 1,500 euros. Additionally, the modular design allows for easy assembly and replacement of parts, making maintenance and repairs hassle-free.

The SHELL bus station was developed by Evgeniy Ivaschenko, a designer and engineer with 15 years of experience in creating small architectural forms. The project combines his expertise in materials, technologies, symbolism, ergonomics, and economics. The design's complex graphics are balanced by its simplicity of production and resistance to vandalism.

The SHELL bus station was completed in 2014 in the city of Kaliningrad. Its innovative design and practicality have earned it recognition, including the Iron A' Design Award in 2015. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
